YouTube has enabled the AV1 codec for live streaming on its platform. What this means is that, if you have the option to enable AV1 Encoding for your live stream, you'll be able to stream at higher quality with far less bitrate. Currently, hardware encoding for the AV1 codec is available on 40 series graphics cards, the Intel Arc graphics cards, and in a few other places. You can also enable AV1 decoding if you want to watch YouTube videos at higher quality as well.
Do you have any experience with the AV1 codec? This relatively new technology is designed to outperform its predecessors (like VP9 and H264), enabling higher quality video streaming while using significantly less data. This is not only great news for content creators who stream their content live but also for viewers who have limited data plans or slower internet connections.
And the next bit of news for today is that Starfield has gone Gold. What that means is that the game is ready to be burned to a master disk and then sold. The preload for Starfield will happen from the 17th of August 2023 on Xbox and the 30th of August 2023 on PC. Starfield itself will be releasing on the 6th of September 2023, with up to 5 days of early access available if you preorder the game.

And the last bit of news for today is that Patch 1 for Baldur's Gate 3 will include more than 1000 bug fixes and tweaks for the game. Patch 2 will include updates that have been requested by players. There isn't a release date yet for Patch 1, but when there is, I'll be sure to report it on the Gaming News. The PlayStation 5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 will be launching on the 6th of September 2023 as well.
