Jeff Bezos, who is the founder and execute chairman of Amazon, has hailed the success of New World. He sent out a tweet that says "After many failures and setbacks in gaming, we have a success. So proud of the team for the persistence. View setbacks as helpful obstacles that drive learning. Whatever your goals are, don't give up no matter how hard it gets @playnewworld." And then he also linked to an article from Bloomberg which was titled "Amazon Can Make Just About Anything - Except a Good Video Game", and he titled it "The two articles are only 8 months apart." Now, as someone who is still fairly new into the news reporting game, I take anything Bloomberg say with a pinch of salt, basically because time and time again, they're completely disputed by these companies, publishers and so on. But generally, I'm happy with New World's success. The reason I didn't play it myself is simply because there's too many other games to play right now, so maybe one day in the future, I will? Who knows? I want to really see what the end game is like. And with Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker just around the corner, I don't feel that I have time.
The next bit of news for today is PlayStation are introducing a new feature on PlayStation 5 called Game Trials, so you'll be able to download certain games, just a demo of it. It's just a demo and try it for free before you buy. The two games that initially that they put on Game Trials are Death Stranding Director's Cut and Sackboy A Big Adventure, with more to come in the future. I am actually currently right now playing through Death Stranding, and I actually quite like it. It's quite fun. It's very, very frustrating. I'm having fun with it. It's interesting that officially they're adding basally demos to PlayStation 5, which is a concept which has been around for decades, but they're calling it Game Trials.
And then the last bit of news for today is that while New World is enjoying success at the top of Steam, at the moment, eFootball is at the very bottom at the other end of the spectrum. eFootball is actually a rebrand of Pro Evolution Soccer. If you rewind the clock like 20 years, it was FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer, they went hand in hand. It was down to your own personal preference, which you preferred. And then they rebranded it to eFootball, as in Pro Evolution Soccer and it has been review bombed. If you go on to the Steam page of the game it's overwhelmingly negative reviews, and some of the screenshots that people have been sharing explain why. They're not doing it just because to be mean. It's like the quality of the game that they released is ridiculous, and some of the screenshots are just made embarrassing. Hopefully, Konami can get their act together and fix it and take the criticism positively and view it, as Bezos said, that's a challenge for them to learn and not allow these things happen (again). But basically when these things happen like, for example, when Ubisoft launched Assassin's Creed Unity embarrassing screenshots of how broken the game was initially at launch were also revealed online. I would just say to publishers, please test your game (better) before you release them for your own sake.
